Acting attorney-general Todd Blanche secured the backing of key Republican holdouts on Monday. He got their support after he scrapped plans for a $1.8bn fund. Senators Thom Tillis and John Cornyn said they would vote to back the nomination. This move cleared the way for his official confirmation process.
