NASA Backs Wild Plan for a Laser-Powered Drone to Explore Giant Caves Below the Moon's Surface

NASA is funding Stone Aerospace, Inc. to build a laser-powered drone for exploring giant lunar caves. The drone will use fiber optic cables to get power and send data from deep underground. Physics lead Gilly Elor said, “The proposed study could enable the first off-world cave exploration” for future missions.
