Molecular orbitals imaged in 3D, opening path to femtosecond videos

Researchers at the University of Göttingen imaged the three-dimensional wavefunction of a nanometer-sized organic molecule. They used photoelectron spectroscopy and new algorithms to see these orbitals. Dr. Matthijs Jansen said, "We introduce two powerful new concepts." This breakthrough could soon allow scientists to create femtosecond videos of atomic movements.
