States cannot cite financial burden to oppose raising retirement age of judicial officers: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on August 5, 2026, told States they cannot use financial burden to oppose raising the retirement age of judicial officers. The Bench said, "The reasons assigned by the State governments for declining to enhance the age of retirement are, therefore, untenable." States must decide within two weeks.
